In Writing Task 2, giving examples is a very important thing to do. Good examples will help to lengthen your essay. More importantly, they make your ideas clearer and easier for the reader to follow. An essay without good examples will not earn high marks.
Today, I want to introduce a very simple and easy way to give examples in Writing Task 2: using the phrase ‘such as…’. You can insert this phrase into any part of your sentence that needs to be made clearer.
Let’s look at some of my sentences in which I have used ‘such as…’ to give examples:
- People who live in big cities have to face many problems such as pollution or traffic congestion.
- The first advantage of taking part in voluntary work is that children can learn essential skills such as teamwork skills or leadership skills.
- Playing sports such as badminton or football is beneficial to people’s health.
This way of giving examples is simple, easy to use, but also highly effective in terms of earning marks in the Writing test.
