In Speaking Part 2, sometimes you can get a very difficult topic. If that is the case, you may struggle to prepare your speech within just one minute. To handle this situation, you should prepare your answers before taking the test, like what I have shown in this lesson.
Today, I have written a sample answer for a difficult Part 2 topic. Note that you don’t need to give a great answer in Speaking. Just focus on improving your pronunciation and fluency (the two most important factors). A good and simple answer is enough. My sample answer below can get 8.0+, although it seems quite simple.
Describe a person who gave a clever solution to a problem
You should say:
Who the person is
When he did it
Where he did it
And explain why you think he is clever
ANSWER:
I would like to talk about my older brother who has recently come up with a brilliant idea to solve a difficult problem.
My brother is the owner of a small bookstore which is located in Oxford Street in London. He opened the bookstore a few years ago, and since then the store has been a good source of income for him. The store offers a wide range of books, from fiction to science, self-help and so on.
Two months ago, a big problem emerged. My brother’s bookstore saw a lower and lower number of customers. Fewer people visited the bookstore, and sales dropped as a result. My brother was very worried. He tried different things in order to solve the problem. He provided discounts. He re-decorated the store to make it more attractive. But nothing seemed to work.
That’s when he came up with a brilliant idea. First, he figured out the reason why fewer customers came to his store. The reason is that as consumers were getting busier, and the streets were getting more congested, they did not want to spend time travelling to a bookstore just to buy some books. Knowing this reason, he decided to set up an online site to advertise and sell his books via the Internet. He would receive orders from customers online and then deliver books to them free of charge.
After applying this method for a while, my brother saw immediate results. Sales increased remarkably as consumers found it much more convenient to buy books online and get them delivered to their doorstep. I think my brother was very clever, because he found a way to save his business, while other people might have just given up and failed.
