This is the Writing question for the exam on March 20, 2018 in Vietnam:
When designing a building, the most important factor is intended use of the building rather than its outward appearance. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
I have written a model essay for this question. Notice my writing style. Can you see that I do not use too many difficult words and complex grammar structures? Yes, I focus on simple writing. Despite being simple, this essay can achieve a very high band score (8.0 or above) as it is very coherent, logical and easy to follow.
Model essay:
Many people claim that the utility of a building is more vital than its look. While I agree that a property needs to be functional, I would argue that the appearance of a building is equally important.
On the one hand, it is true that attention needs to be paid to the use of all buildings. Firstly, every property needs to have functions that make it more convenient for its users. For example, a residential complex should be equipped with facilities such as swimming pools or BBQ areas which serve the needs of residents. Secondly, those who build properties with investment aims need to add more functions to these properties in order to make them more attractive to buyers or tenants. If a building is not utilitarian, it will be less likely to generate profits.
On the other hand, the appearance of a building is equally essential. The first reason is that an attractive appearance of a house or an apartment is likely to give the owner a sense of satisfaction. They can also feel proud when showing the property to their friends or family members. Additionally, for commercial complexes, the outward appearance is vital. For instance, a big shopping mall needs to look spectacular to attract visitors. If a property does not look impressive, it will not stand out on the streets, and not many people will be able to notice them.
In conclusion, it seems to me that both the utility and the appearance of a building are equally important.
